Helen started her journey serving in the Armed Forces in the Queen Alexandra Royal Army Nursing Corp. She has endured many highly emotive career specialisations, including practising as a Nurse Specialist in many areas of public health, including Drug & Alcohol Dependence and Sexual Health.
Having recently taken early retirement from being a Clinical Lead at Wirral St John's Hospice and having life-changing surgery, Helen decided to focus entirely on her incredibly dedicated passion for Beekeeping.
Joining forces with the fabulous Angie, Helen welcomed Sunlight Bees.
Although beekeeping may have begun as just a hobby, Helen and Angie are now Award-Winning Beekeepers who specialise in all things Bees! With their magnificent resources for exploring and learning, Helen and Angie have visited schools, after-school clubs, church groups, women's groups, Beavers, Cubs, Rainbows, Brownies, and nursing homes. The ages of their loyal audiences span from 4 to 102 years!
Since founding Sunlight Bees, the dynamic duo have collected many an accolade spanning far and wide and are championed by their local community for spreading the sweet wondrous knowledge about their brilliant bees and what a vital ingredient they are for our planet.
They are now a Multi Award Winning business that is growing and thriving daily, educating all age groups and abilities about the importance of these tiny creatures.
Awards include recognition for their beautiful range of superb products, all made from their hives, products including:
Honey
Baked honey goods.
Honey cakes
Fudge
Biscuits and Chutneys
A range of balms for humans and animals, supporting anxiety and a plethora of other health ailments (vegan alternatives are available). Sunlight Bees' chemotherapy balms have been made using Helen’s direct experience as a nurse and by listening to patients' challenges during or after chemotherapy. These are bespoke to the patient's requirements. They soothe, restore and moisturise during gruelling treatment bringing much-needed relief in a range of calming scents for relaxation purposes.
Helen Says:
"We were recently delighted and proud to receive the WHSJ Hospice Community Engagement Award. This was in recognition of donating all monies raised from our talks and events for The Hospice Challenge".
In July 2022, Helen was nominated for The Cheshire Woman Of The Year Award 2022 for being an innovator and solution-focused practitioner. As well as gaining a 'best in show' at the mid-Cheshire Beekeeping Honey Show.
Everyone, including the bees, was thrilled!

Quality Control and Promoting Our Products
If you have any questions about our products or would like us to tailor an event for you, please get in touch via phone call or send us a message.
Hand-made specifically for those who may be undergoing, or just finished, chemotherapy. As chemotherapy patients might be experiencing a sore mouth or dry and cracked lips, this balm aims to soothe. It's light on fragrance and colour - so it's not overpowering if smells are a problem, or causing nausea.
This soft, smooth and easily absorbed lip balm, is 100% organic and has a light lemon flavour and scent, with a natural colour to reduce any additional unnecessary additives (colourants). To make it super moisturising we've added extra shea and coconut oil, alongside the beeswax (or soya wax for a vegan alternative).
These are handmade to order so if light lemon isn't for you, let us know and we can talk through some options. These can be discretely labelled with a smiley face in place of our normal labels, for younger children (or young-at-heart adults) we have a number of superhero options too, just let us know!
All ingredients are:
Suitable for persons 3 years and older.
This balm comes in a 15ml recyclable tin - pocket-sized.
10% of each sale will go to Clatterbridge Maggie's Centre.
Please note, these have a 5-day turnaround as they are hand-made to order.
